The United States and Canada are well served by AANR - The American Association for Nude Recreation. Their mission is to "Promote, enhance, and protect in appropriate settings, nude recreation and nude living in the Americas."
With over 50,000 members, AANR is the largest, most long-established organization of its kind in North America.
Since 1931, AANR has been a trusted source for nudist information, on such topics as what to expect in a nudist club, a nudist resort, or even from a skinny dipping experience. Nude recreation is growing in popularity. Over 18% of all Americans would find a visit to a nudist club, or other clothes free experience a highly desirable part of a vacation according to the results of a survey reported in USA Today. So, if you and/or your family have considered giving skinny dipping a try, see yourself as a longtime nudist, or would like to join a nudist club or visit a resort you're not alone.
The American Association for Nude Recreation website will help you learn more. One of the FAQ questions asks "Why do people choose nude recreation?" The answer:
"Nude recreation embraces the joy of living and experiencing nature in the most natural way possible. To relax and be nude is to let yourself be totally free. Although we enjoy clothing-free activities in appropriate settings, we also choose to wear clothes when practical. Nudists respect each other's individuality. Our own self-esteem is enhanced by our ability to accept ourselves as we really are. We find it easy to accept others regardless of physical size, shape, or body condition. Moreover, social class distinctions, often indicated by clothing, disappear. Relaxation, stress relief, positive body image, and increasing self-esteem are just a few of the reasons people choose the nudist lifestyle."
